Shoreline Fiber
Project
The GMCS is part of the Shoreline Fiber Network, "a joint project of the Muskegon Area Intermediate School District (MAISD), Muskegon County, and Muskegon Central Dispatch 9-1-1. The 130-mile network connects 82 sites, including local schools, colleges, fire departments, police stations, and other governmental entities. Network construction began in 2003 and involved hanging fiber on over 3,700 poles throughout the Muskegon County area. Improved public safety, faster online classroom connections, and lower telecommunications costs top the list of benefits realized through the fiber network." From MAISD press release, June 19, 2007.
Recycling Program Please continue to send us your used ink and toner cartridges and old cell phones. Our recycling efforts generate approximately $1,000 per year towards our ink and toner budget and help the environment! You can drop off your used cartridges in any GMCS school. If your business generates multiple cartridges, we can arrange a pickup. Please call Mark Carrell at 755-2201 or email for more information. Please note we can not recycle
remanufactured or refilled ink and toner cartridges.

Preventing the
spread of computer viruses to the GMCS network Anyone using the
Internet and email at home, school, or work faces the danger of
computer viruses. These destructive programs can cost time and
money, cause automatic file deletion, and even render your computer
useless! The GMCS Technology Department offers some tips on how to
protect your computer that will help us combat this very costly
problem:

spread*
Technology
Donations The GMCS Technology
Department often depends on the generosity of the GMCS community to
update our hardware and software. Because the needs for a networked
environment may be different than those in a home environment, we
ask that all donations of computer equipment be approved in advance
by the Director of Technology to determine if donated equipment is
compatible with our network.

GMCS Technology
Plan In accordance with
the regulations for funding under Title V and USF, the GMCS has a
formal Technology Plan, approved by the state of Michigan, valid
through June, 30, 2006.

Acceptable Use
Policy
The Greater Muskegon Catholic Schools has had an Acceptable
Use Policy in effect since our initial connection to the Internet in
1995. All users of the network must have a signed AUP on file with
the technology department in order to be assigned a user account.
Student use of the Internet requires permission of the parent, which
is included as part of the AUP. The AUP is reviewed yearly and
changes are made as needed.
