Thoreau High School – Construction Update

We're excited to share progress on the new Thoreau High School! Here's where things stand:

The New Building The new school will be approximately 84,000 square feet. A modern two-story facility designed for grades 9–12. It will include classrooms, a gymnasium, cafeteria, media center, kitchen, and administration offices, along with outdoor basketball courts, full perimeter fencing, and safe walking areas.

Where We Are in the Process Contractor proposals are due May 19, 2026, and we are actively moving through the design and bidding process. Approvals following contractor bidding takes additional time. Expect to see mobilization for utility work in September 2026. All site work will be completed in phases to minimize disruption, but you can expect changes to access as parents, staff, and busses will be diverted around construction work. The new building will be built on the same campus while the existing school stays fully operational.

What to Look Forward To A fully operational and energy-efficient heating & cooling system. New parking, drop-off, and bus loop separated for safety. Increased parking and access for sports fields. Outdoor learning spaces. Spacious and modern classroom spaces.

We'll continue sharing updates as the project moves forward.
